Technology-Led Health & Absence Management

Kingston Communications (HULL) PLC - a leading provider of communications solutions throughout the UK - has successfully implemented a sophisticated Absence Management service delivered by Active Health Partners to better manage health and sickness absence.

At the core of Active Health Partners' service is a contact centre staffed by qualified nurses. Employees of Kingston Communications who are unable to attend work are asked to call the nurse contact centre (24/7). If the absence is due to sickness they will receive immediate medical advice. The nurse will record the absence and an SMS mobile text message will be sent out to the manager. The system that captures the absence data generates reports which managers have access to via a password protected web portal.

Terry O'Brien, Group HR Director says: "In addition to providing our employees with access to medical advice around the clock, the technological innovation provides numerous benefits. The combination of rigorous data capture and web-based reporting allows us to better understand and manage occupational health issues. The immediate notification via SMS text message is helping managers, particularly those working in the field, to improve people logistics."

Ingolv Urnes, Chief Executive of Active Health Partners, comments: "Our 'Day 1' medical intervention identifies health issues such as stress and musculoskeletal (back pain) disorders and ensures appropriate medical attention is given early on. For many of our clients we have reduced absence by more than 30%".
