Dealing with Tomorrow's Risks

Only 42% of accidents are reported*: what can and should employers be doing about this?
Active Health Partners (AHP) is the first company to provide a solution that ensures accident reporting policies are complied with and the data captured is used to mitigate risk.

AHP - the number 1 provider in absence management - officially launches ARM (Accident Reporting & Management). ARM is a unique service which can provide the framework to make possible the quantum improvements in accident reporting required to meet increasingly demanding health and safety targets set by the Government.

Daren Pemberton, Business Development Director, AHP comments: "While all companies have Health & Safety policies, they are not enforced and analysis of the data recorded is not monitored."

Uniquely, AHP's service combines medical intervention from Day 1 and sophisticated data capture and reporting, designed to replace accident/incident books.
Qualified nurses in AHP's Accident Contact Centre record work-related injuries and near misses. They provide medical advice and send immediate notification to the relevant managers via email or SMS text messaging. The service will make reporting easier, provide consistency, enable assessments of trends, and ultimately contribute to injury prevention.

Companies may boast good Occupational Health; use of electronic systems for reporting accidents or traditional paper accident books, but crucially, none of these methods ensure consistency and compliance to reporting procedures. Furthermore, there is no process to ensure data is assessed and preventive measures implemented.

"This lack of compliance, data assessment and robust system for taking corrective action leaves management wide open for litigation and heavy fines" says Pemberton.

Accurate and timely reporting of work-related injuries and near misses is critical to providing a safe and healthy working environment.
The current approach to Health & Safety tends to focus on addressing risks following accidents. The underpinning principle under AHP's system is to prevent or mitigate risks at source through assessment of real-time trend reports, and not merely to accept or respond to existing risks.
